Commentary

This translation was commissioned by Ashvrin.

The final PR’ed script for this was almost 2k words long, holy shit. No wonder this feels like a slog working on it, considering it’s only 30-ish pages long. Effort was made to make sure what happened with Misono Kousoku regarding readability won’t happen again, but I can’t promise for sure it doesn’t happen again. If you spot some (or lots) of mistakes in this translation, do give us a heads up on discord or in the exh gallery and we’ll amend that.

This is also the first Kancolle doujinshi we worked on. Shame that the raws available was quite awful to work on. I used waifu2x (specifically, unlimited:waifu2x, which is newer version; small and fast, too!) for denoising, but looking back at it, I might’ve gone too far with it; some details are lost and I only noticed it when editing the pages. Sorry about that.

The plot for this book is quite simple: vacationing on a rural, isolated backwater and everyone went feral with no brakes. I like that Hitomi, being more reserved than Iyo, also folds to her own desire in the end. I can remember the base depiction of both Hitomi and Iyo is quite faithful to how they are in-game, though I didn’t stay long enough to raise them to level 80 or above before I quit.

Speaking about that, one line that I decided to translate quite liberally is Admiral’s thought on page 26. それどころかふたりにとって最後の防波堤だった様で.... A truer-to-text translation would be “On the contrary, it seems to be the last defense for both of them…” or something like that, basically “crossing the line of their sanity before all hell went loose”. I opted to translate it as “On the contrary, it seems that they’re now on their last dance…” since: 1. it is a ‘funny’ reference to Last Dance in Kancolle, and 2. it seems fitting to the context. My understanding of Japanese isn’t good enough to warrant that this is the best interpretation of the line; if I am, I won’t be compelled to write this as a sidenote.
